Answers to your FedEx WorldTariff Manager Questions

SERVICES OVERVIEW

What is the FedEx WorldTariff Manager?

FedEx WorldTariff Manager is a web-based application with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that combines three of WorldTariff's services into a single solution: product classification, estimates for duties and taxes, and restricted party screening.

What is Restricted Party Screening?

RPS refers to the process of comparing names of customers, business partners, facility visitors, etc., against official watch lists of individuals and entities with whom it is illegal to do business.

What are Estimated Duties and Taxes?

Duties and taxes are imposed to generate revenue and protect local industry; almost all shipments crossing international borders are subject to duty and tax assessment by the importing country's government. Duties and taxes can be estimated for goods sold using a HS6 code, or they can be country-specific with a fully qualified harmonized schedule (HS) code.

Can I use the duty and tax calculator for internal calculations of products not sold?

When using a platform-specific plug-in, platforms limit what can be stored, and the calculator cannot be used to generate estimates for internal use. However, if you integrate using the FedEx WorldTariff Manager REST API, then the calculator can be used internally for calculations.

How quickly does the application respond? Can it affect my customer's buying experience?

While your customer is in checkout, the call to FedEx WorldTariff Manager happens before payment information is entered. The response may happen almost instantly or within a few seconds.

What is Product Pre-Classification?

International customs often requires that products or commodities have a harmonized schedule (HS) code. In order to facilitate faster clearance and estimates for duties and taxes, WorldTariff can classify your commodities at the HS6 or country-specific using a fully qualified HS code. Product pre-classification enables you to get your products or commodities classified before you ship

What happens if an invalid HS code is used?

Invalid HS codes can result in inaccurate estimates for duties and taxes, and it could also delay shipments from being cleared by customs.

If a fully qualified HS code has become invalid, will the calculator use the HS6 to provide an estimate?

If a fully qualified HS code has become invalid, the calculator will use the first six digits (HS6), but the result will be a general duties and tax estimate and not one specific to the destination country.

SOLUTION INTEGRATION

How do you integrate with the FedEx WorldTariff Manager?

FedEx WorldTariff Manager offers integrations via REST API or as a plug-in with certain platforms. Set up instructions for each integration option can be found in the FedEx WorldTariff Manager application.

What does Rest API mean?

REST API is an architectural style for an application program interface (API) that uses HTTP requests to access and use data. REST web APIs are typically loosely based on HTTP methods to access resources via URL-encoded parameters and the use of JSON or XML to transmit data.

What’s the FedEx WorldTariff Manager Custom App?

This app is not supported by the marketplace/platform and can’t be downloaded directly from the marketplace/platform, but rather supported and downloaded (as a custom link) by FedEx directly and integrated onto your marketplace store.

What if I only want to use one service out of the bundle, how will I be charged?

You only get charged for the services used.

How long does the initial set-up/onboarding take?

For the custom app, the setup time takes less than an hour to complete once the request for the custom app has been received. For connecting the FedEx World Tariff Manager to your own system(s), such as using the REST API, it will depend on your technology team’s capability. With a REST API integration, timing will depend upon availability of your IT resources.
