Understanding tracking terms and delivery status
In transit means that your package is on its way to its final destination. It does not necessarily mean that your package is in a moving vehicle such as an aircraft or truck. It may be at a FedEx sort facility, however, it has not reached its final destination and is not available for pickup at a FedEx retail location.
Out for delivery means that your package was scanned by a package handler and it is either ready to be loaded onto a FedEx truck for delivery or is already out for delivery.
No scheduled delivery date at this time means the estimated delivery date may not be available at this time or that FedEx does not have the package in its possession yet. When a shipment encounters a delay or an exception in handling, we may not be able to accurately state when we expect the package to be delivered. The delivery commitment may change based on the type of delay.’
Scheduled delivery is now pending means that every effort is being made to deliver your package as soon as possible. Delivery commitments change based on the type of delay and our effort to mitigate the delay. Please continue to use your tracking number to access the most up-to-date information regarding your package. To receive ongoing status updates for your package, click GET STATUS UPDATES after you enter and submit your tracking number above.
Delivery exception means that an unexpected event is preventing the delivery of your package. Some examples of delivery exceptions include holiday closure impacts, when a signature is required from someone at the recipient’s address, but no one is available, or other situations. To receive ongoing status updates for your package, click GET STATUS UPDATES after you enter and submit your tracking number.
Delivery is held, unable to collect payment means we attempted to contact you about a shipment that requires the payment of charges, including duties, taxes and other related fees, prior to delivery.
Clearance delay means the shipment is still in Customs.
Customs and clearance delays occur for a variety of reasons; the following are some examples:
- Missing documentation
- Incomplete, missing, or inaccurate information on documentation
- Additional documentation needed by regulatory agencies
- Processing required by additional regulatory agencies
- Missing piece(s) of multiple-piece shipment
If additional information is required, FedEx will attempt to contact the party that is most likely able to provide the required information. To receive ongoing status updates for your package, click GET STATUS UPDATES after you after you enter and submit your tracking number above.
Operational delays occur for a variety of reasons; the following are some examples:
- Incorrect recipient address
- Incorrect recipient postal code
- Missing address information (including buzzer code or apartment number)
- Other events that delay delivery of the package
Weather delays include natural events outside of the control of FedEx such as snow, hurricanes, fires, tornadoes, or storms.
