Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate dimensional weight of a package?
Dimensional-weight pricing is applicable on a per-package basis to all shipments in customer packaging. FedEx packaging may also be subject to dimensional-weight pricing. Dimensional weight is calculated by multiplying length by width by height of your package (in centimeters) and dividing by 5,000 (standard density in cubic centimeters per kg).  Alternatively, if the dimensions are in inches, the divisible is 305 (standard density in cubic inches per kg) or 139 (standard density in cubic inches per pound).Â
Â
Dimensional weight (kg) =Â | Length x Width x Height (centimeters or inches) _____________________________________________________________ |
5000 for centimeters or 305 for inches | |
 | |
Dimensional weight (pound) =Â | Length x Width x Height (inches) __________________________________________ |
139 for inches |
Dimensional weight (kg) =
Length x Width x Height (centimeters or inches) / 5000 for centimeters or 305 for inches
Dimensional weight (pound) =
Length x Width x Height (inches) / 139 for inches
How should I pack heavy freight or multiple items together for shipping?
When packing heavy freight or multiple items together for shipping, it is important to adhere to the packaging requirements for freight shipment as outlined in the FedEx Standard Conditions of Carriage. Utilizing pallets is recommended to minimize the risk of damage to your shipment.

Do you know?
What is freight forwarding?
Freight forwarding organizes the transport of goods directly from a manufacturer to the final distribution point. Freight forwarders don’t do the transporting – they arrange domestic and international cargo transports with a freight carrier.
How are freight shipping rates calculated?
Freight shipping costs are usually affected by factors such as origin and destination, dimension and weight of shipment, surcharges, changes in currency, duties and taxes, and discounts.
