John A. Smith is chief operating officer of U.S. and Canada ground operations for FedEx. This includes the surface operations for all parcel and LTL freight services. He also serves on the eight-person executive committee, which sets the direction for the FedEx enterprise.
Prior to his current role, Smith served as president and CEO of FedEx Ground and, prior to that, served as the president and CEO of FedEx Freight.
Smith has more than 30 years of experience in the transportation industry and joined FedEx in 2000. In previous
roles, he also served as senior vice president of operations for FedEx Freight and has vast experience across every area of the business, including operations, sales, transportation, fleet maintenance, facility services and safety.
Smith serves on the board of the American Transportation Research Institute and was named treasurer of the board for the American Trucking Associations in October 2019. He is a graduate of Northwestern State University with a degree in geology.
