What is an Air waybill (AWB)?

Air waybill (AWB) meaning

  • An Air Waybill (AWB) is a contract between the shipper and the air carrier, serving as a formal agreement for transporting goods.

  • Unlike bill of lading (BOL), an AWB is a non-negotiable document. It also known as a consignment note to service as receipt of goods by carriers.

  • It contains destination address, carrier information, a description of the goods, and contact information for the sender (consignor), receiver (consignee), and any additional party to be notified.

  • The FedEx AWB includes a 12-digit tag specific to the shipment.
