What is a HTS Code?

HTS Code meaning

The Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) is a 10-digit classification system used in the United States to calculate customs duties on imported goods. The first six digits of the HTS code match the specific goods' Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS Code).

Using HTS codes helps estimate the duties when your shipment enters the United States. It is managed by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) and enforced by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), under the Department of Homeland Security.

Are HTS and HS Codes the same?

No, the HTS Code is for the United States, while the harmonized systems (HS Code) is a globally accepted system used by over 200 countries and developed by World Customs Organization (WCO).

However, both systems use numerical codes to categorize goods based on their type, origin, and destination.

How do you get or find the HTS Code?

You could use HTS Code search tools such as The Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) of the United States.
