When you shipped with TNT, parcels and freight were shipped together. At FedEx, we split them to help us improve our delivery times. Simply put, this means you’ll need to book parcels and freight separately when shipping with FedEx.
So what is the difference between parcel and freight shipments?
Parcels
Generally, a parcel weighs 68 kg or less. You can have multiple items in one shipment (which means the total shipment weight can be more than 68 kg), as long as no individual item exceeds 68 kg.
Freight
If any individual item within a shipment is above 68 kg, it’ll be freight. If a package is odd-sized (e.g. it exceeds 274 cm in length), it may also be considered freight.
Still wondering why you need split shipments with FedEx? Well it's all down to the innovative equipment we use that automatically sorts parcels on a delivery belt.
Packaging and Supplies
There are four ways to get supplies for your FedEx shipments:
- Order online at fedex.com
- Pick up supplies at a nearby FedEx location
- Ask your FedEx driver
- Contact FedEx Customer Service
Please use FedEx packaging or your own packaging when shipping with FedEx.
Your shipment will be charged based on the air waybill attached to the shipment and not based on which packaging you use – except for packages with a flat rate.
