FedEx Express (FedEx) conceived the idea of an international network more than 25 years ago, when it purchased Gelco Express International, a courier service with offices in Europe and Asia.
1984
Purchased Gelco, a courier company with offices in Europe and Asia.
Established FedEx operations in China and Japan.
1987
Established first Asia Pacific regional office in Hawaii.
1988
Began first direct, scheduled cargo services to Japan.
Began four weekly flights between Portland, Oregon and Narita.
1989
Purchased Flying Tiger Line, which gave FedEx flying rights to 21 countries/territories.
Established FedEx operations in Australia, South Korea and Malaysia.
