FedEx History in APAC

FedEx Express (FedEx) conceived the idea of an international network more than 25 years ago, when it purchased Gelco Express International, a courier service with offices in Europe and Asia.

1984

  • Purchased Gelco, a courier company with offices in Europe and Asia.

  • Established FedEx operations in China and Japan.

1987

  • Established first Asia Pacific regional office in Hawaii.

1988

  • Began first direct, scheduled cargo services to Japan.

  • Began four weekly flights between Portland, Oregon and Narita.

1989

  • Purchased Flying Tiger Line, which gave FedEx flying rights to 21 countries/territories.

  • Established FedEx operations in Australia, South Korea and Malaysia.
