Taking steps to ensure safety
As the world adjusts to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19), first and foremost, we are being guided by the recommendations of the ECDC, WHO and other leading health organizations. We are applying these recommendations to the more than 475,000 FedEx team members around the world who power our network. As such, we have taken a variety of actions, including:
- Educating team members about the virus and sharing resources on how to keep the workplace clean
- Encouraging team members to use good hygiene practices, including frequent handwashing
- Reinforcing education and hygiene with regular workplace communications and reminders
- Extending our safety precautions to the point of delivery
- Temporarily suspending signature required for most deliveries in Europe except for shipments with adult signature required.
- Regularly disinfecting the equipment used to make deliveries
- Regularly disinfecting the equipment used to make deliveries
- Encouraging team members to closely monitor their health and seek medical attention if they develop flu-like symptoms
- Any team member who reports or displays flu-like symptoms will be asked to stay home
Thinking one step ahead
We bring experience in facing challenging situations that require us to implement plans that maintain our operations, while also limiting impacts to our customers. FedEx and TNT have 115 years of experience in proactively addressing situations that can occur at any given time anywhere in the world. Whether social upheaval or a natural disaster, we are adept at implementing contingency plans at a moment’s notice, and we have the flexibility across our network to make the necessary adjustments so that we can continue providing the best service possible.
It is the magnitude of the event that dictates the degree of implementation of our plans. For COVID-19, it is all hands on deck. Our pandemic planning includes operational business continuity plans designed to position each of our operating companies for success even under the most trying of circumstances. Those plans have been activated and we will turn to post event recovery planning at the appropriate time.

Frequently asked questions
We are closely monitoring guidance by the ECDC, WHO and other public health organizations, and taking recommended precautions in terms of team member and customer health and safety.
Please note that our employees are not permitted to sign individual health or travel questionnaires. We believe the measures we’re taking to promote good hygiene and to encourage employees to not come to work if they’re sick are in line with guidance from ECDC and WHO.
Additionally, the WHO has declared COVID-19 as a pandemic. Community spread is now a concern so travel to specific locations is not the primary determining factor of potential exposure. As such, we will not be releasing any employee’s travel history.
To promote the World Health Organization’s guidance on social distancing and do our part to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 across our communities, effective immediately we will temporarily suspend most signatures typically required for FedEx Express in Europe.
We have a longstanding history of managing peak shipping times and events that require increased volume for our customers. Please contact your sales professional as soon as possible to ensure your incremental shipping needs are submitted to the appropriate team for planning purposes.
When disaster strikes, we mobilize the FedEx global fleet and use our unmatched transportation infrastructure to move urgently needed supplies quickly and efficiently to and from relief organizations.
We are currently supporting relief efforts through our longstanding relationships with humanitarian aid organizations including Direct Relief and International Medical Corps. These relief organizations are providing critical needs like masks, disposable medical protective clothing and disposable medical gloves. FedEx is maintaining frequent communication with them and other nonprofits to ensure that our resources are deployed effectively.
Since the beginning of 2020, FedEx has sent 10 humanitarian aid shipments of medical supplies to China through collaboration with Direct Relief.
Those shipments have contained surgical caps, medical gowns, coveralls, masks, gloves, shoe covers and face shields.
