Shipping between the UK and EU

Shipping in 2021 and beyond

The UK and EU Trade and Co-operation Agreement came into effect on January 1st, 2021. This page contains details on how your shipping processes have changed, and how to continue to trade across borders effectively.

HM Revenue & Customs have informed UK businesses that from January 1, 2022 they will no longer be able to delay making import customs declarations under the Staged Customs Controls rules that were introduced following Brexit.

In simple terms, temporary easements on customs declarations will be removed and a full customs declaration will be required. Please be advised that FedEx and TNT have been submitting full declarations from the start of the Brexit implementation date January 1, 2021. This means there are no additional changes for customers, and you should continue to supply FedEx and TNT with a complete and accurate commercial invoice for shipments to and from the EU and respond to requests for missing information as quickly as possible.
