Palletizing Your Shipment
Base FedEx Express Freight shipments must be on a pallet, skid, or other forkliftable and pallet-jackable base with a minimum clearance of 3-1/2" for access. Pallet-jack entry is required on two sides of the base.
Size Skids exceeding 70" in height or 119" in length or 80" in width require prior approval. Skids exceeding 2,200 lbs. require prior approval. There is no limit on the overall shipment weight.
Loading/Stacking Distribute weight evenly on the skid. Stack boxes squarely corner to corner to the skid’s edge to maximize compression strength, but do not overhang. Keep the top of the skid flat to minimize lost or damaged cartons (pyramid stacking is not accepted). Place angled fiberboard (angleboard) between cartons to prevent crushing. Cover the top layer to protect the load from weather.
Securing Methods Wrap your freight in 70-gauge stretchwrap. Pass a minimum of two bands (tightly secured) through the skid voids and around all cartons. Banding material can include steel, rayon, polypropylene, nylon or polyester strapping. If applicable when bolting, consider using shock-absorber connections or cushioned skids.
Address/Labeling Individual cartons should include the origin and destination address whenever possible. Remove or mark through all old labels.
