( BW)(FEDERAL-EXPRESS)(FDX) Federal Express Launches Expanded
interNetShip Shipping To Enhance Customer Efficiency
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1997
-- Personal user address book, e-mail functionality enhance FedEx
web-based shipping --
Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) today introduced several
enhancements to FedEx interNetShip(SM) which will help small- and
medium-sized shippers better compete in the global marketplace.
Beginning today, customers in 26 additional countries can ship via
the Internet to more than 160 countries served by FedEx, while taking
advantage of new on-line conveniences such as an address book and
e-mail messaging capability. These enhancements further the
company's ability to connect 90 percent of the world's gross domestic
product by express delivery within 24 to 48 hours.
"FedEx interNetShip helps level the global playing field for
smaller companies that may not have the shipping resources and
expertise of large corporations," said Dennis H. Jones, Chief
Information Officer, Information and Telecommunications Division,
FedEx. "These latest FedEx interNetShip improvements -- combined
with our global network -- put technological capabilities and service
reliability in the hands of more businesses around the world."
FedEx interNetShip allows customers to conduct more of their
day-to-day business electronically. Some important additions that
improve customer efficiency include:
--Address book: Responding to customer demand, FedEx has
added an on-line address book for users to store up to 75
frequently used addresses for quicker printing of shipping
labels and air waybills.
--E-mail: FedEx interNetShip now enables shippers to notify
FedEx package recipients and third-parties via free-form e-
mail about shipment information -- all on FedEx's network.
--Service Selection: For greater convenience, customers can
use FedEx interNetShip for more delivery options, including
FedEx Priority Overnight(R), FedEx International Priority(R),
FedEx Standard Overnight(R), FedEx First Overnight(R), and FedEx
Express Saver(R).
"For the first time, U.S. companies with offices in many
overseas locations can take advantage of the same functionality and
convenience that their domestic counterparts have enjoyed with FedEx
interNetShip," said Jones.
FedEx receives more than one million tracking requests via its
website each month and handles more than 54.7 million electronic
transmissions each day.
Federal Express is the world's largest express transportation
company providing fast and reliable services for more than 2.9
million items to 212 countries each working day. The company employs
approximately 137,000 people, has more than 42,500 drop-off
locations, 590 aircraft and 38,500 vehicles in its integrated global
network. FedEx maintains electronic connections with more than
750,000 customers via FedEx Powership(R), FedEx Ship(R) and FedEx
interNetShip(SM). Federal Express reported revenues of $11.5 billion
for its fiscal year ended May 31, 1997.
