( BW)(FEDERAL-EXPRESS)(FDX) FedEx Focuses on Delivery; Offers Advice
to Customers at Drop-Off Locations
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 15, 1997-- To sustain a
high level of service, Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) will focus on
delivery rather than pickup every Saturday until the end of the UPS
strike.
By emphasizing delivery, FedEx will be able to deliver the
maximum number of packages to their destinations on a timely basis
and to prepare for the coming business week when customers ship more
than on the weekend. Previously announced changes in Saturday pickup
service remain in effect.
The strike against UPS has added volume to the FedEx
system. To maintain service performance, the company has hired
temporary workers, added flights and increased trucking operations.
In addition, FedEx employees are working overtime and hundreds of
employees in staff positions are volunteering to work without pay at
nights and during the weekend.

The company offers the following tips to customers who plan to ship
on Saturday:
-- Do expect Saturday deliveries to be completed as usual.
-- Do take packages only to the FedEx World Service Centers which
are normally open on Saturdays. These will be open at their
regularly scheduled time, but increased volumes can result in
restricted hours at individual locations.
-- Do remember that FedEx couriers will pick up only from regularly
scheduled Saturday customers and drop boxes regularly served on
Saturday.
-- Do keep in mind that each customer may ship no more than five
packages daily at FedEx drop-off locations.
-- Do remember that call-in pickups will not be available on
Saturdays.
-- Do expect some drop-off locations to be closed, depending on the
local situation.

FEDEX TIPS TO CUSTOMERS FOR WEEKDAY SHIPPING
-- DO take your packages only to manned drop-off locations.
FedEx is not responsible for packages left outside drop boxes
or on the sidewalk.
-- DO ship perishable items for next day delivery.
-- DO plan to be at the drop-off location as early as possible;
many locations have to close early because of increased volumes.
-- DO have your package ready. It should be securely packed,
wrapped properly and with all paperwork completed.
-- DO have your account information or check or credit card ready.
-- DO pick up packing supplies for future shipments during this
visit; it will save time later.
-- DO monitor the Federal Express Web site, http://www.fedex.com . It has
valuable information about drop-off locations and allows
you to track the status of your package. If you have a FedEx
account number, consider using FedEx interNetShip(SM) to
prepare your package label.
-- DO be prepared for further limits on the number of packages you
can ship. Conditions will change depending on local situations.
