( BW)(FEDERAL-EXPRESS)(FDX) FedEx Adjusts Saturday Pickups to Better
Meet Customers' Needs
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 7, 1997--Federal Express
Corp. (NYSE: FDX)(FedEx) will limit its pickup service on Saturday,
Aug. 9, and will focus on deliveries so that FedEx can get more
packages to their destinations as soon as possible.
The Teamsters strike against UPS continues to add substantial
volume to the FedEx system, and FedEx employees have worked
tirelessly to handle excessive demands.
Deliveries will continue as scheduled, and the service
adjustment will affect only pickups. By limiting pickups and
focusing on deliveries Saturday, the FedEx network should be better
prepared for the next work week.
On Saturday, FedEx customers should expect that:
-- Saturday deliveries will be completed as usual.
-- Only the FedEx World Service Centers which are normally open
on Saturdays will be open regular hours. Increased volumes
may result in restricted hours at individual locations.
-- FedEx couriers will pick up only from regularly scheduled
Saturday customers and regularly scheduled Saturday drop
boxes.
-- On-call pickups will not be available.
-- Depending on the local situation, some drop-off locations may
be closed.
"We realize many individuals have been inconvenienced by the
Teamsters strike and appreciate customers understanding as we try to
help as much as we can," said Alan B. Graf Jr., executive vice
president and chief financial officer, Federal Express.
The company offered the following advice to shippers:
-- Plan ahead. Remember that pickup times have changed and
limits are in effect.
-- Use FedEx's Internet site, http://www.fedex.com, for drop-off
locations, service updates and to track the status of
packages.
-- Remember that C.O.D. packages are being held at the nearest
delivery location for pickup by the recipient.

company, providing fast and reliable services to 212 countries each
working day. The company employs approximately 130,000 people, has
