( BW)(FEDERAL-EXPRESS)(FDX) FedEx to Offer the Only Next Business Day
10:30 a.m. Service from Asia to U.S.; Osaka to Memphis Flight Enables
Later Pickups, Faster Deliveries
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 30, 1997--Federal Express
Corp. will provide the only next business day shipping from major
Asian markets to most cities in North America when it introduces a
new flight schedule Sept. 1 featuring a direct flight from Osaka,
Japan to Memphis. The nonstop daily flight will cut transit times
across the Pacific in half for FedEx customers -- from 48 to 24 hours
- who ship from Asia to North America. FedEx will offer delivery
commitment for 10:30 a.m. the next day, backed by its money-back
guarantee.
"This direct flight from Osaka to Memphis will provide FedEx
customers unmatched speed of delivery door-to-door from key markets
in Asia to thousands of U.S. cities, to major markets in Canada and
to Mexico City," said Theodore L. Weise, executive vice president,
worldwide operations. "The new schedule also will enable us to offer
our customers in Asia later pickup times for connections through the
FedEx AsiaOne(R) hub in Subic Bay to 13 major Asian markets. As a
result, our customers doing business across the Pacific can improve
their cycle times and get their products in the hands of their
customers that much faster."
The new routing will be served by an MD-11 aircraft. The flight
will originate in Singapore and connect in Osaka at Kansai
International Airport, where it will start the 12-hour direct flight
to Memphis. This routing also will enable FedEx to provide pickups
one to three hours later in the day for customers in key Asian
markets such as Singapore, Taipei, Hiroshima, Kuala Lumpur and
Penang.
"We're able to offer this unique daily service, featuring the
longest flight of its kind in the world, thanks to strong customer
demand for FedEx International Priority(R) service across the Pacific
and the unparalleled regional capabilities of the FedEx AsiaOne(TM)
network," said Weise. "The investments we've made in aircraft,
facilities and route authorities over the years have enabled us to
build an integrated network which now connects the globe with
unprecedented speed and reliability."
