( BW)(FEDERAL-EXPRESS-2)(FDX) FedEx Lifts Fuel Surcharge on Freight
Services
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1997--Federal Express
Corp. discontinued its fuel surcharge effective June 1 on FedEx
International Express Freight(R) and FedEx Airport-to-Airport(SM)
services originating in the U.S., Canada and Asia. For U.S.
domestic service shipments and FedEx International Priority(R)
shipments originating in the U.S., the surcharge is scheduled to be
lifted on August 1.
FedEx initiated the surcharge on the two international freight
services in December 1996 after absorbing increasing jet fuel costs
for months. The fuel surcharge on the remaining services was delayed
until February 1997 to allow FedEx customers to get through their
peak shipping season.
On April 15, FedEx removed the fuel surcharge on FedEx
International Express Freight and FedEx Airport-to-Airport services
originating in Europe and Latin America.
