( BW)(FEDERAL-EXPRESS)(FDX) FedEx To Offer Enhancement Of
International Services
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 1997--International
shipping becomes simpler and up to 30 percent less expensive this
summer when Federal Express Corp. introduces three service
enhancements. The new offerings include a flat-rate box for shipping
by FedEx International Priority(R), an expansion of FedEx International
Economy(SM) service and lower rates from the U.S. to major Canadian
markets.
The new shipping options will give FedEx customers greater
flexibility in meeting their global shipping needs. "Our customers
have told us they want international shipping to be easier and more
convenient," said David Shoenfeld, vice president of marketing for
U.S. and Canada. "With these new enhancements, both seasoned
exporters and infrequent international shippers will find FedEx's
global shipping services more accessible and affordable than ever."
The new FedEx(R) 25kg Box and FedEx(R) 10kg Box will give confidence
to infrequent export shippers using FedEx International Priority by
providing simplified paperwork, an attractive and sturdy
water-resistant box, and a convenient flat rate based on the
customer's international destination. First available in February to
FedEx overseas customers shipping to the U.S., the boxes will be
available June 9 in the U.S and July 2 in Canada. FedEx
International Priority service for the boxes offers time-definite
delivery from one to three business days to 211 countries.
For exporters with less time-sensitive shipments, FedEx
International Economy will offer lower rates between the U.S. and
many major business locations within five business days. The
service, currently available only between the U.S. and Canada, will
expand July 1 to 22 countries, including the world's most popular
export destinations.
New lower rates to Canada from the U.S. can mean savings of up
to 30 percent on FedEx International Priority to major Canadian
markets. Beginning July 1, rates will be based on two scales,
allowing prices to more closely reflect transportation costs involved
in serving Canadian markets. One scale will be for major markets,
and the other for remaining locations within the country.
Each of the new shipping options will include FedEx's
time-definite, door-to-door delivery; customs clearance at no extra
charge and shipment-status tracking.
Federal Express is the world's largest express transportation
company providing fast and reliable services for more than 2.8
million items to 211 countries each working day. The company employs
approximately 127,000 people, has 41,000 drop-off locations, and
operates more than 575 aircraft, 38,000 vehicles and 550,000
Powership(R) and FedEx Ship(RM) automated shipping systems in its
integrated global network. Federal Express reported revenues of
$10.3 billion for its fiscal year ended May 31, 1996.
