( BW)(TN-FEDEX)(FDX) Agere Systems Names FedEx Primary Carrier for Worldwide Express Shipments; Communications Semiconductor Maker Cites Superior Reliability, Global Coverage, Tracking and Information Systems

    Business Editors

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 2002--Agere Systems (NYSE:AGR.A)(NYSE:AGR.B), a premier provider of integrated circuit solutions that access, move and store information, has selected FedEx Express, an operating company of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), as its primary carrier for worldwide express shipments.

FedEx Express will transport Agere Systems' domestic and international express shipments worldwide, including shipments within Asia via the FedEx AsiaOne network and from Asia to Europe on its newly-enhanced transcontinental flights.

"More than any other semiconductor provider, we are focused on providing the highest level of service-centered operations to our customers," said Sean Ellis, Agere's director of Global Logistics and Compliance. "FedEx Express offered concise solutions that were responsive to our needs, including outstanding reliability, favorable transit times, superior package tracking and information systems and vast geographic coverage. FedEx will be crucial in our ongoing efforts to improve delivery performance for our customers."
The FedEx Express solutions Agere will be using include:

-- FedEx EC-Ship, which integrates FedEx shipping solutions with Agere Systems' existing electronic ordering system. This FedEx solution allows customers to track orders and get shipping rates, documents and labels without leaving the Agere Web site.
-- FedEx InSight(R), which proactively tracks inbound, outbound and third-party shipments to provide precise status summaries on multi-package shipments in a single report. It also helps pinpoint customs delays and suggests actions to expedite deliveries.

"Today a logistics provider needs to focus as much on its software applications as on its delivery performance - and that's what FedEx can do for Agere," said David B. Edmonds, senior vice president of Worldwide Services for FedEx. "Both Agere and its customers will benefit from such value-added services surrounding the actual delivery of the packages. With this agreement, FedEx has once again put together a complete, customized, one-stop express transportation solution, one that puts our technological leadership to use in meeting a customer's needs today and helping them stay competitive tomorrow."
