MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 2001--FedEx Corp.
(NYSE:FDX), the company that invented overnight delivery service,
stands ready to bring more last-minute gifts and packages to homes and
businesses this week than at any other time of the year. FedEx expects
Wednesday to be its busiest day of the year when about 6 million
shipments will move through its global networks.
As package volumes hit peak levels, eager shippers and recipients
going online are pushing transactions on fedex.com to record
levels--even after significant increases in 2000. Already this month,
daily shipments generated on fedex.com topped the 300,000 mark, and
FedEx expects its busiest peak day is still ahead. The 300,000 daily
shipments are more than double the number of daily shipments handled
on fedex.com at this time last year.
Still plenty of time
Although Wednesday is expected to be the busiest for FedEx,
world-champion procrastinators still have plenty of time: They can
ship as late as Saturday through FedEx Express for delivery Christmas
Eve. Here are the shipping solutions available to be sure shipments
arrive before Christmas:
| | -- | FedEx 2Day(R)--Ship Thursday, Dec. 20 for delivery by Monday,
Dec. 24.
| | -- | FedEx First Overnight(R), FedEx Priority Overnight(R), FedEx
Standard Overnight(R)--Ship as late as Saturday, Dec. 22 for
delivery on Monday, Dec. 24.
| | -- | FedEx SameDay(R)--Get delivery 365 days a year, including
Christmas Day. Call 1-800-Go-FedEx(R) (800-463-3339) for
details and pickup.

Ship with confidence--FedEx is prepared
In addition, the FedEx money-back guarantees for service (as
described in the FedEx Service Guide) remain in effect throughout the
holidays for all FedEx Express services--another indication that FedEx
is well prepared to meet customers' shipping needs this holiday
season.
"Customers can be confident when shipping with FedEx this holiday
season," said David J. Bronczek, president and CEO of FedEx Express.
"We offer on-line tools at fedex.com that allow both the shipper and
the recipient to track the progress of a shipment, and use of these
tools doubles during the month of December. And, as always, we have
proven contingency plans that help us constantly adjust our network to
handle severe weather, spikes in volume, and other challenges as they
occur."
FedEx Express even has its own team of meteorologists who monitor
weather conditions and issue forecasts, and its Global Operations
Control Center (GOCC) can respond with routing and operational changes
for its air and ground fleets within minutes.
Home Delivery, fedex.com show strongest growth
Shipment volumes at FedEx Express and FedEx Ground routinely
increase substantially during the holidays, but this year FedEx Home
Delivery is expected to show the largest percentage increase of all--a
doubling from non-peak season average daily levels. Daily volumes for
this neighborhood-friendly, reliable, residential-only service will be
about six times greater than during the last holiday season. More than
12,000 shippers, including many popular online retailers, depend on
FedEx Home Delivery to handle their merchandise.
Meanwhile, the year-to-year increase in volume of shipments
processed online through fedex.com reflects the Web site's status as
one of the most-trusted and most-used in the online community.
"Fedex.com consistently ranks as one of the best Web sites in
terms of ease of use, speed and value, according to leading
publications and research groups," said Laurie A. Tucker, senior vice
president of global marketing at FedEx. "As a result, the fact that
more and more holiday shippers and shoppers are using it comes as no
surprise, as we expect even more growth in the years ahead."
