( BW)(TN-FEDEX-FREIGHT)(FDX) FedEx Freight Names Three to Senior Management Team

    Business Editors

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 2001--FedEx Freight, a leading provider of regional less-than-truckload (LTL) next- and second-day services and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), has added three new positions to its Memphis-based senior management staff in order to focus on the growing regional LTL market and coordinate with its sister companies in the FedEx family. FedEx Freight is made up of two regional operating companies, American Freightways (AF) and Viking Freight.
Dennie C. Carey, formerly executive vice president of marketing at AF, is now vice president of marketing for FedEx Freight. Carey oversees the corporate sales function of AF and Viking's corporate account sales teams as well as managing strategic marketing for FedEx Freight. Prior to his ten years in sales, marketing, and operations at AF, Carey worked in the transportation industry for 20 years in various sales and operations positions. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Colorado.
Heading up the international sales effort for FedEx Freight is Edward C. Alderman, named director of international development. He comes to the organization from AF where he was vice president of international/offshore sales development. Before spending four years with AF in Harrison, Ark., Alderman worked in senior sales positions for international and offshore markets for 10 years at Viking in San Jose, Calif.
"I have great confidence in Dennie and Ed's abilities to help FedEx Freight achieve greater success, especially as we move forward with exciting new opportunities," said Douglas G. Duncan, president and CEO of FedEx Freight. "With them on board, FedEx Freight is better able to serve the LTL transportation buyer's needs, whether it's to reduce inventory and speed time-to-market or to ship goods into or out of the U.S. While American's and Viking's operations will remain separate and independent, our corporate account sales staff will now be able to capitalize on synergies and compete collectively with each other and our fellow FedEx operating companies."
Additionally, joining Duncan's executive team is Robert H. Rhea. He takes on the role of vice president and general counsel and will oversee all legal and security areas for the FedEx Freight companies. Rhea, formerly with the Baker, Donelson, Bearman & Caldwell law firm in Memphis, spent the last seven years with FedEx Corp. and FedEx Express where he held senior attorney and managing director positions in contract and business transactions and legal technology transactions. Rhea received his JD degree from the University of Mississippi.
Carey's marketing staff will include Brian Marie, who will serve as business analysis and development manager. Most recently, Marie worked as a senior operations analyst for FedEx Corp. for 3 years.
As a member of the FedEx Corp. family of companies, FedEx Freight is a $1.9 billion leading provider of next-day and second-day regional LTL freight services. FedEx Freight is composed of two operating companies, American Freightways and Viking Freight, both known for exceptional service, reliability and on-time performance.
