( BW)(TN-FEDEX)(FDX) Nissan Taps FedEx as Exclusive U.S. Carrier

    Business Editors

GARDENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 2001--Nissan North America (NNA) today announced that FedEx Express and FedEx Ground will be the exclusive carriers for all of Nissan's express document, air freight and small-package ground shipments within the United States and prepaid shipments from the United States to Canada.
"Nissan is focused on establishing lasting efficiencies in all aspects of its business that will support profitable growth for the company," said Dave Peterson, corporate manager of logistics for NNA. FedEx, based in Memphis, Tenn., has the ability to provide excellent service, and to meet Nissan's standards for on-time delivery, he added.
"The decision to go with the FedEx companies with this agreement is in line with the Nissan Revival Plan's drive toward developing higher levels of productivity, efficiency and cost effectiveness in all areas," Peterson said. "This agreement covers all of Nissan's 65 U.S. locations, which are involved in vehicle development, manufacturing, sales, service and financing."
He added Nissan ships about 2.9 million packages per year in the United States. Contents include documents, vehicle parts, supplies and equipment. The contract commenced Sept. 17, 2001.
The monetary value of the contract and its length were not announced. The contract does not cover shipments into the United States, or those destined for foreign addresses other than Canada.
"FedEx is proud Nissan chose us to provide the single-source, supply-chain services that will help it compete more effectively in today's high-tech, high-speed global economy," said David B. Edmonds, senior vice president of global sales. "This is an excellent example of how the independent networks of FedEx Express and FedEx Ground provide a total transportation solution that will help Nissan serve its customers more efficiently and effectively."
With annual revenues of $20 billion, FedEx Corp. is the premier global provider of transportation, e-commerce and supply-chain management services.
In North America, Nissan's operations include automotive styling, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and manufacturing.
