PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 25, 2001--Today, FedEx Ground, a subsidiary of FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX), will open 63 additional FedEx Home Delivery terminals throughout the United States to expand the service's geographic reach to 80 percent of the U.S. population. FedEx Ground will co-locate 56 of the new FedEx Home Delivery terminals with existing FedEx Ground facilities to optimize its network. (Please see page three for a complete list of expansion cities.)
"Shippers and their customers continue to respond enthusiastically to the service and we are expanding the network to achieve full U.S. coverage, more than one year ahead of schedule," said Daniel J. Sullivan, president and chief executive officer of FedEx Ground. "We are committed to rolling out FedEx Home Delivery at an accelerated rate and are pleased to extend the service to more residential consumers across the country."
"More and more shippers are finding they can improve their own brand image by adding value to their customers' delivery experience at a competitive price," said T. Michael Glenn, president and chief executive officer for FedEx Services. "Since its inception, FedEx Home Delivery volumes have steadily grown and we expect them to continue to grow significantly over the next year as a result of the service's ability to serve a larger segment of the market with its unmatched features and superior service."

    Customer Advantage

The FedEx Home Delivery expansion is well timed to help catalog and online retailers serve consumers this holiday season. More than 8,000 shippers, including retailers such as U.S. Toys and Harry & David, have benefited from the service's cost-effective, customer-friendly residential shipping options and unmatched Money-Back Guarantee. With this expansion, FedEx Home Delivery shippers can extend that level of service, flexibility and value to more of their residential consumers.
For Williams-Sonoma, Inc., the nation's premier specialty retailer of home furnishings since 1956, attention to service and quality throughout every part of the customer experience is critical to its success. The company uses FedEx Home Delivery and FedEx Express to fulfill the $1 billion catalog and online orders received annually from its Williams-Sonoma kitchenware and Pottery Barn home furnishings brands.
"We chose FedEx Home Delivery because it offers something more - exceptional FedEx tracking along with evening and Saturday deliveries," said Patrick Connolly, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Williams-Sonoma, Inc. "In this business, delivery is the last contact with the customer. Knowing that FedEx Home Delivery's commitment to service is just as exacting as ours assures us that our customer is getting the very best service from the time they place their order to the time they receive it."

About FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery

Launched in March 2000 by FedEx Ground, the second largest small-package ground carrier in North America, FedEx Home Delivery is the only ground service dedicated exclusively to residential delivery and the first service to offer a Money-Back Guarantee. Created in response to shipper demand for a better ground delivery solution for the residential market, FedEx Home Delivery offers the most comprehensive level of service at competitive rates. These services include standard evening and Saturday delivery and unmatched premium service options such as day-specific and guaranteed appointment.
In June 2000, FedEx Ground announced an accelerated expansion plan to achieve full U.S. coverage by September 2002. In the first phase of the expansion last February, FedEx Ground opened 85 FedEx Home Delivery terminals increasing the service's reach to 70 percent of the population. By next February, the network's coverage will serve 90 percent of the U.S. population.
After this latest expansion, FedEx Ground will have a network of 584 distribution hubs and local pickup-and-delivery terminals throughout the United States and Canada. The company reported annual revenue of $2.2 billion in fiscal year 2001.
With annual revenues of $20 billion, FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX) is the premier global provider of transportation, e-commerce and supply chain management services.
