( BW)(TN-FEDEX)(FDX) FedEx Express Returning to Near Normal Air
Operations Tonight; Intercontinental Flights Resume from Asia and
Europe to and from the United States
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2001--FedEx Express, a
subsidiary of FedEx Corp., (NYSE:FDX) resumed air operations within
the United States today, having launched nearly 60 aircraft to
complement its vast trucking network. FedEx flights will operate
tonight throughout the country, and the number of trucks serving the
FedEx Express network has nearly tripled over the past few days to
fulfill customers' needs.
"We expect flight operations to run very smoothly tonight with
many of our 640 aircraft returning to the sky," said David J.
Bronczek, CEO and President of FedEx Express. "The sorting of packages
and flight launches are going very well, and we will be working around
the clock to get up to full speed. For those cities still under
federal flying restrictions, we continue to serve our customers
through our contingency plans that were implemented recently,"
Bronczek added.
FedEx has made moving medical supplies, emergency equipment and
payroll-related shipments a priority. Security has been increased
around the world, and the company is in full compliance with the new
security guidelines issued by the federal government.
"As we resume operating our air network, the safety of our
employees and customers and security of their shipments remain our top
priority," said Bronczek. "We welcome these new security guidelines,
policies and procedures."
The unparalleled FedEx networks in the Asian, European and Latin
American regions continue to operate. FedEx Express has been approved
to resume intercontinental flights from Asia and Europe to and from
the United States.
FedEx Ground, the leading small package business-to-business
network, is running at nearly full capacity with a high level of
service. Other FedEx operating companies, including FedEx Freight,
FedEx Custom Critical and FedEx Trade Networks are also operating
normally with above average volume levels.
"We are continuing to keep our customers and employees around the
world updated frequently and consistently through our corporate Web
site, our private satellite television network, couriers and sales
force," said Bronczek. "Our employees are committed to providing the
best service possible to our customers," added Bronczek.
FedEx has been providing significant support for emergency relief
efforts, both financially and with "in-kind" shipping services.
Employees have arranged and are participating in blood drives at FedEx
facilities across the country, and are making substantial pledges to
the American Red Cross and the United Way of America National Response
Fund.
The FedEx Express Money Back Guarantee remains suspended, but the
company looks forward to reinstating it soon.
