( BW)(FEDEX-EXPRESS)(FDX) FedEx Express Opens World Headquarters
Campus Designed to Please; Employee-Focused, Community-Minded Campus
Is Designed for the 21st Century
Business Editors
MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 2000--FedEx Express, the
world's premier global provider of express transportation, logistics,
e-commerce and supply-chain management services, and a subsidiary of
FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), today officially opened its World Headquarters
campus. The campus is designed to give FedEx employees a user-friendly
work environment that encourages communications and teamwork and
enhances the company's ability to recruit and retain the talented
professionals so necessary in today's competitive global business
environment. Located in the southeast Memphis area, the complex
provides 1.1 million square feet of office space set on 89 acres. When
fully occupied, the campus's eight buildings will house about 3,300
employees.
"The underlying purpose for this campus was to consolidate FedEx
groups that worked in diverse locations by moving them into one
central business complex in order to improve productivity as well as
recruiting and retention," said Dave Bronczek, President and CEO,
FedEx Express. "The FedEx Express World Headquarters campus
accomplishes this goal. Moreover, its overall design encourages the
type of open, face-to-face communication and teamwork that is needed
in today's business environment."
The campus includes a 1.5 mile walking/jogging trail, courtyard
water features, and enclosed, climate-controlled bridges between
buildings. Some of the more progressive amenities in the complex
include:
| | -- | 500-seat auditorium with video production, video conferencing
and connections for laptop computers in the front rows (for
training purposes)
| | -- | 500-seat indoor and outdoor dining area
| | -- | 10,000 square foot Wellness Center with aerobics,
cardiovascular workout, and weight-training areas
| | -- | Company store, credit association, and corporate travel
offices
| | -- | Training classrooms
| | -- | Corporate library
| | -- | Kinko's copy center and a dry-cleaning service site
| | -- | Team work areas, coffee bars and conference rooms on every
floor
|
The complex merges seamlessly with the surrounding area and takes
advantage of outdoor views for building residents. Angled glass sides
on buildings eliminate glare both outside and inside. Lights along the
perimeter drive keep light levels low for surrounding neighborhoods at
night. Mature trees abound, reflecting the corporate commitment to
preserving the environment.
Inside the three-story buildings every feature reflects the
corporate goal of providing the optimum work environment. Employee
workstations, located near the glass walls on each building's
perimeter, give employees access to natural outside light. Individual
air flow controls are located in the floor inside each workstation.
All buildings are connected by either ground-level or second-level
glass-enclosed bridges for outside views.
"This campus demonstrates the commitment of FedEx to its employees
and the Memphis area while exemplifying, in its architecture, the
dynamic spirit that makes FedEx Express a global leader," said Dave
Bronczek.
