SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 28, 1999--Viking Freight
Inc., the leading LTL (less-than-truckload) carrier providing western
regional transportation service and a subsidiary of FDX Corp.
(NYSE:FDX), today announced the appointments of two regional
operations directors and one administrative operations director.
Steve Adkins, most recently director of corporate planning, has
become regional operations director for Viking's southern territory,
which encompasses Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico, and the
Las Vegas and El Paso, Texas areas. Adkins has been with Viking since
1987 and has extensive operations experience in the Viking system as
well as with other carriers.
His previous Viking positions included stints as service center
manager in Fontana, Calif., Orange County, Calif., and Sacramento,
Calif. and director of engineering services.
Daren Van Wagenen, who formerly served as service center manager
for Viking's Whittier, Calif. facility, has been appointed as regional
operations director for Viking's northern territory. This region
covers Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado and Utah. Van Wagenen
started at Viking in 1995 as special projects manager in Salt Lake
City.
He then moved on to become service center manager in Las Vegas
before his Whittier assignment. Prior to joining Viking, Van Wagenen
was in operations management with various other carriers.
Additionally, at Viking's corporate headquarters, Roger Cooper
moves from director of rates and customer billing assurance to
director of operations planning and engineering. Cooper has been with
Viking since 1991 in a variety of operational and administrative
roles, including director of special accounts-operations and director
of quality and continuous improvement.
The mission of the department Cooper now heads up is to meet the
needs of shippers with unique or special requirements, as well as to
assist all of Viking's administrative and service center operations in
developing effective business and operational processes.
"Viking is very fortunate to have a staff with such a wealth of
experience and knowledge to draw upon," said Tilton G. Gore, vice
president of service center operations. "Steve, Daren and Roger will
