( BW)(CA-VIKING-FREIGHT)(FDX) Viking Freight Picks Up Eighth Quest for
Quality Award
Business Editors
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 13, 1999--For the eighth
time Viking Freight Inc., the leading LTL (less-than-truckload)
carrier providing western regional transportation service and a
subsidiary of FDX Corp. (NYSE:FDX), was selected to receive a Quest
for Quality award by the readers of Logistics Management &
Distribution Report. The magazine's readers chose Viking as 1999's top
performer in the Western Regional LTL Carriers category in the annual
survey.
"Winning this prestigious award for the eighth time demonstrates
our commitment to satisfying and exceeding shippers' expectations,"
said Viking's Vice President of Marketing Keith E. Lovetro after
accepting the award on Viking's behalf at the Sept. 30 awards dinner
in Chicago. "Our employees work very hard to provide 98 percent or
better on-time service while also being Easy-To-Do-Business-With.
"What was considered excellent service in the past is now the
accepted standard in our industry," continued Lovetro. "At Viking
we'll continue to raise the quality performance bar in our on-going
quest to provide superior service for our customers and our customers'
customers."
The survey polled buyers of transportation services and asked
them to score carriers on five quality criteria: on-time performance,
value, customer service, information technology, and equipment and
operations. Ballots from the more than 3,000 readers who responded to
the survey showed that the top three attributes shippers value most
from their LTL carriers are on-time performance, value, and customer
service.
Viking Freight wasn't the only FDX company to receive a 1999
Quest for Quality award. Sister company FedEx won a Quest for Quality
award as the top performer in the Air-Express Carrier category.
Additionally, FedEx and Caliber Logistics, a division of FDX
Logistics, were among the readers' top choices in the Third
Party/Outsourcing Companies category.
