    MEMPHIS, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1998--FDX Corp. (NYSE:FDX), a $16 billion holding company providing comprehensive transportation, logistics, and supply chain management solutions on a worldwide scale, today announced that Rodger G. Marticke has been promoted to executive vice president at RPS, effective Nov. 9. Douglas G. Duncan will become president and chief executive officer at Viking Freight, replacing Marticke.
    "In anticipation of RPS' aggressive plans to continue its strong growth and expansion, I am extremely pleased to have Rodger Marticke join our leadership team. Rodger brings a wealth of transportation and logistics experience to this new position, and he will be instrumental in helping us meet our future goals," said Daniel J. Sullivan, president and CEO of RPS.
    Prior to his current position as president and CEO at Viking, Marticke was president of Caliber Logistics and also served as vice president and group executive at Roadway Services, where he was responsible for Roberts Express and Roadway Logistics Systems.
    Duncan, who has more than 20 years transportation experience in various operations and sales positions with Caliber System and Roadway Express, is currently Viking's senior vice president of Sales and Marketing.
    RPS Inc. entered the business-to-business ground small-package market in 1985. Since then, the company has expanded throughout the United States, achieving 100 percent coverage of North America in 1996.
    Viking Freight, headquartered in San Jose, Calif., specializes in award-winning next- and second-day regional freight service. Viking operates in 11 western states and also provides intermodal service to Alaska and Hawaii.
    FDX Corp's other operating subsidiaries are Federal Express Corp., the world's largest express transportation company, Roberts Express Inc., a critical-shipment carrier; and Caliber Logistics Inc. a contract logistics provider.
