FedEx Safety and Security Update


In the difficult aftermath of September 11, FedEx wants our customers and employees to know the company remains committed to providing a safe and secure work environment as well as safe and reliable transportation service. We have hundreds of specially trained security officers and safety specialists throughout the world as well as highly effective procedures in place.

In the past few weeks, we have advised all employees to be on heightened alert and have strengthened our already stringent security procedures. FedEx employees are empowered to take decisive actions to protect themselves and customers' shipments.

FedEx fully complies with, and often exceeds regulatory security directives and continues to work closely with law-enforcement officials, government agencies, and public health officials. We will continually evaluate and implement procedures based on current conditions.

Safety Tips for Our Customers

Safety experts advise recipients to pay particular attention to:

  • A delivery that you do not expect.
  • A shipment from a person or company that you do not know.
  • Unusual odor.
  • Stains, such as wet spots, frosts, leaks or other extraordinary substances.
  • Hot or cold packages that could indicate a chemical reaction.
  • Noises, such as ticking, metal rattling, sloshing or broken glass.

Do not open a package if you have doubts about its safety. Contact local authorities following local guidelines.





FedEx Security Information

  • FedEx package tracking is information intensive, containing facts that identify the shipper and history of the shipment.
  • The overwhelming majority of FedEx shipments come from established, business-to-business customers who have accounts with the company.
  • FedEx has hundreds of security personnel around the world who are highly skilled in security and operational procedures.
  • FedEx has an outstanding reputation for cooperating with law-enforcement officials at all levels of government.
  • FedEx employees are authorized to take any number of actions to achieve a high level of security. These include, but are not limited to:
    • Isolating any package for further scrutiny.
    • Calling in security and/or safety specialists.
    • Requiring additional information to establish the identity of a shipper.





Keeping Our Employees Informed

  • Communication is key to keeping employees informed about the latest news and safety precautions.
  • Safety specialists have established a Web site that is updated as often as necessary and available to any FedEx employee with a personal computer.
  • Broadcasts on the company-operated network, FXTV, can be viewed at hundreds of FedEx work locations.
  • Emails can be targeted to groups of employees with specific information suited to their needs.
  • A telephone hotline is staffed 24 hours a day to answer individual safety questions.
