Direct Signature Required is a signature option designed to meet the needs of customers who seek extra peace of mind for their shipping transactions.

With Direct Signature Required, you can automatically verify that your FedEx Ground® shipments have been delivered.  The Direct Signature Required option is available for each package and/or shipment that you specify.  The signature and delivery information are stored electronically and sent to you automatically by fax or mail on a schedule that you predetermine - daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly.  In addition, you have the flexibility to determine how long you want or need to keep electronic delivery signatures on file.

You can choose the Direct Signature Required option for intra-Canada FedEx Ground shipments and FedEx International GroundTM shipments.  If you would like to receive Direct Signature Required reports, please contact your FedEx account executive.  Please note that a nominal fee applies for the Direct Signature Required option.  When you are ready to use the service, you can get an online rate quote

What is Direct Signature Required?
Direct Signature Required replaces FedEx Ground® Auto P.O.D. This option is available for intra-Canada FedEx Ground shipments and FedEx International Ground shipments.  With Direct Signature Required, FedEx will obtain a signature from any person at the delivery address.  If no one is at the address, FedEx will reattempt delivery. 

Please note: The Direct Signature Required option overrides any recipient release that may be on file for deliveries.
What is the fee for Direct Signature Required?
The Direct Signature Required fee is $3 per package.  Shipments with a delcared value of $500 CAD or USD or greater will receive this service at no extra charge.
How do I choose Direct Signature Required on FedEx electronic shipping devices?
To choose the Direct Signature Required option you must visit fedex.ca, select the 'Ship' tab, choose 'options' and select the 'Signature' option from the drop down menu. To obtain a Direct Signature, select it from your shipping device's Signature Service options, while preparing your shipping label. All charges will appear on FedEx invoices.

If you are processing shipments manually, then a pre-printed Direct Signature Required barcode must be affixed to each package.
What are Direct Signature Required reports?
Direct Signature Required reports contain signature and delivery information. These reports are stored electronically and are sent to you automatically by fax or email, depending on your pre-determined schedule - daily, weekly, monthly or quarterly. in addition, you have the felxibility to determine how long you would like FedEx to keep your electronic delivery signatures on file.

What if I signed a recipient signature release?

The Direct Signature Required option overrides any recipient release that may be on file for deliveries.

What are the restrictions?
Some restrictions include bill recipient, damaged shipments, shipments with missing credit card information and packages that cannot be released due to unsecured areas.

Other key restrictions are as follows:

 

  • Once a shipment has been tendered to FedEx, you may not change the signature option..
  • All pieces of a multiple-package shipment must have the same FedEx Delivery Signature Option.
  •  All pieces with a declared value of CAD$500 or USD$500 or greater require a signature.  In such cases, Direct Signature Required is the default service and is provided at no additional cost.  
  • FedEx Delivery Signature Options are not available for FedEx Express Intra-Canada and International shipments from Canada.

How has Direct Signature replaced FedEx Ground AUTO P.O.D (Automatic Proof of Delivery)?

- Direct Signature Required and Direct Signature Required reports will replace FedEx Ground Auto P.O.D. and FedEx AUTO P.O.D reports.
- Customers who would like to receive Direct Signature Required reports must enroll prior to shipping signature-required packages.  Contact your FedEx account executive to complete a new enrollment request form.
- Customers enrolled in the AUTO P.O.D. (Direct Signature Required) Report Program prior to July 11, 2005 will continue to receive the same reports for all Direct Signature Required shipments.
- The reporting feature is currently available only for FedEx Ground shippers.
Shipments with a declared value of $500 CAD or USD or greater will receive this service at no additional charge.
